Inspection Points For Foundation Contractors

About Me
How Concrete Is That?

When someone describes an idea or action as "concrete," they generally mean that action is permanent or stable. Of course, that meaning is derived from the fact that concrete itself is really hard and stable. This is why, over the years, concrete has become such an in-demand material. It's used to make everything from the biggest skyscrapers to the smallest of patio pavers. What other material could be so versatile? We hope to bring more attention to that versatility as we write about concrete and contractors on this blog. As our readers, you can enjoy the content and let us know how we're doing.

Inspection Points For Foundation Contractors

There are several inspections your home may undergo over the years. Some of these are inspections for buying or selling a home. Some of the inspections, however, are for work you need to be done on the home. This may be for renovations or due to some issues with the structure of the home. Your foundation contractor may be who you need to handle this type of inspection. Here are the key inspection points foundation contractors look for and what you need to know about each point.

Cracking

One of the first points the foundation contractor will look for are cracks in the foundation. These cracks may be small and unnoticeable by the average homeowner. However, even small cracks can lead to much larger and longer cracks. As the cracks deepen, widen, and grow larger they cause more severe issues. One of the issues is larger spider web-style cracks that can allow water inside. As the water gets inside of the cracks, you can see water damage and separation. By locating the cracks first, the foundation contractor can determine what repairs may be necessary and how soon they'll be needed.

Leaning Walls

You may have an issue with your foundation that can result in leaning walls. The leaning walls are due to the shifting of the foundation. As the soil surrounding the foundation shifts, it will result in the foundation itself losing its hold and shifting as well. When this happens you will start to notice a shift or unevenness in your door frames and window frames. If you are experiencing problems with your doors, windows, or with your walls cracking, you need to have an inspection to locate all the points. Your foundation contractor can locate these areas and determine how repairs should take place.

Water Leaks

You may not think about water leaks when you consider your foundation. The truth is, you may notice pooling water or excessive dampness near the base of your basement walls. This can be due to several issues including water leaking into the basement around the foundation. Your foundation contractor can examine the area for water leaks and trace them back to their point of origin. This means you can focus on the repairs at the source.

When you are ready to have your foundation inspected for damages or renovations, contact your local foundation contractor. They will schedule a time and date for the inspection. They may also ask you several questions regarding the renovation, damages, or your concerns about the health of the foundation. You can ask any questions you have after the inspection and discuss with the contractor the best ways to move forward.
